JOB TITLE: Registered Medical Assistant

JOB SUMMARY / OVERVIEW

• Responsible for performing general office medical assisting. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients, staff, and the public.  Ensures timely and accurate charting of medical records.  Verifies the accuracy of chart information and ensures compliance with all regulations and procedures.  Responsible for monitoring standards of performance, quality and productivity in preparing requests for patient medication.

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Verifies the accuracy of chart information and ensures compliance with all regulations and procedures.
• Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs and prepare patients for examination or procedure.
• Set up and assist with minor procedures and pap smears as directed.
• Restock exam rooms, laboratory and clinic areas.
• Perform in-house lab tests (UA, HBG, Glucose, Strep, Mono and Urine Drug Test).
• Ensure that results from ordered tests are received and placed in the charts.
• Ensure a note is placed in chart if patient did not have ordered procedure done.
• Schedule lab tests, x-rays and other diagnostic procedures.
• Dispenses medications per the providers’ orders.
• Manages patient questions and concerns via the phone when appropriate.
• Phones lab results to patients per providers’ orders.
• Phones in prescriptions per providers’ orders.
• Prepares and administers injections per providers’ orders.
• Ensures that all sample medications are properly logged in and out.
• Checks ER box monthly to ensure it remains stocked and expired items replaced.
• Assist in the inventory and ordering of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED.
• Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program.
• Must have a current Medical Assistant certification or Registration. Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA or a Registered Medical Assistant through AMT.
• Employee is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all certification requirements relative to the position.
• Current BLS certification.

• Knowledge of universal precautions and blood borne pathogens.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to provide health care assistance in a sensitive, nonjudgmental manner to persons of all economic levels and cultural backgrounds.
• Skilled at working with health care professionals
• Ability to manage and prioritize work load.
• Able to deal effectively in a positive manner with a variety of people and maintain a composed and courteous demeanor.
• Must possess basic computer skills.
• Exhibit a sense of ownership in decision-making activities.
• Must have strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrate attention to detail.
• Ability to speak, read, write legibly and comprehend instructions in English.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
• Ability to communicate in Spanish is helpful.
