JOB TITLE: OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: VISION OFFICE MANAGER

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Optometric Technician assists in providing excellent patient care, while performing a wide range of duties. Responsible to use optical equipment to properly perform the initial testing needed, while accurately recording data to prepare a patient for an exam with an optometrist. Independent to develop efficient and effective workflow patterns to create a steady pace of patients. This position must be willing to cross-train and continue education.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Assist optometrist by preparing and cleaning exam rooms, recording visual acuity, observing pupil reflexes, measuring intraocular pressure and preliminary screenings including but not limited to the use of an auto-refractor and matrix.
  • Accurately recording medical histories including active medications.
  • Conducting diagnostic tests including Optical Coherence Tomography, Visual Field, Fundus Photos and External Slit Lamp Photos.
  • Teach insertion and removal of contact lenses with proper wear and care instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Demonstrate initiative, function independently, and attention to detail.
  • Must possess basic computer skills and willing to learn various computer systems.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend instructions in English.
  • Medical terminology knowledge encouraged.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to provide a positive manner with a variety of people and maintain a composed and courteous demeanor.
  • Familiarity with optometric tests preferred.
